OVERVIEW
This course equips education leavers with the knowledge and practical skills to create a clear, professional and effective first CV. Leaving school, college or university and writing a first CV can feel daunting when you have little formal work experience — but employers recruiting early-career applicants look for potential, attitude and transferable skills, not just a long job history. By the end of this course you will be able to start from a blank page and build a complete, competitive CV that you understand and feel confident sending out.
The course covers what a CV is and how early-career recruitment works, the modern digital job market and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), how to prepare and identify your strengths, how to write strong content from education, volunteering and other experiences, how to draft and format your CV section by section, and how to refine, tailor and present it. Throughout, you will see worked before-and-after examples, model wording you can adapt, and checklists you can apply to your own CV straight away. It helps you present yourself confidently and competitively, whether you are applying for an apprenticeship, a first full-time role, a part-time or weekend job, a college or university place, or a place on a training or graduate scheme.
