Communication Skills at Work

About this course.

Almost every problem at work has a communication problem somewhere inside it. A vague email, a meeting where nobody agreed who would do what, or a hard conversation that was put off for months. This course gives you practical, evidence-based skills to listen well, write clearly, speak with confidence and handle difficult conversations fairly.

Communication is not a “soft” extra. Acas, the independent public body that advises employers and employees in Britain, points out that there is nothing soft about handling an emotional or confrontational conversation. Good communication helps teams avoid mistakes, resolve problems early and treat people fairly. This course draws on practical guidance from Acas, the Government Digital Service (GDS) writing standards for GOV.UK, the Cabinet Office Disability Unit, NHS England, the NHS website, the CIPD (the professional body for HR and people development) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
