About this course.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions, affecting both children and adults. Despite how widespread it is, ADHD remains widely misunderstood. Many people still think of it as simply ‘naughty children who can’t sit still’, or assume it is caused by poor parenting, too much screen time or sugar. The reality is very different. ADHD is a recognised condition that affects how the brain manages attention, activity and impulses, and it brings real challenges as well as genuine strengths. Whether you work in a school, a care setting, social work, healthcare or a support role, you are very likely to support people with ADHD — some diagnosed, some not — and the way you understand and respond to them makes an enormous difference.

The course covers the three presentations (predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined), how common ADHD is, what causes it, the core features of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, the strengths associated with ADHD, co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, autism and dyslexia, the path to diagnosis, and practical support strategies — structure and routine, reasonable adjustments, communication, and how to create environments where people with ADHD can thrive.
