OVERVIEW
When someone is injured or falls ill at work, the first few minutes matter enormously — and the law requires every employer to make adequate first-aid provision so that help is at hand. This course explains the legal duties under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations, how a first-aid needs assessment decides what provision is required, and the roles involved, from appointed persons to qualified first-aiders. It also covers first-aid kits, facilities and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
It then introduces the priorities of first aid and the DRABC primary survey (Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation), and the essentials of life support — CPR, the recovery position, and dealing with choking, serious bleeding, shock and burns. Finally it covers accurate recording and reporting, and is clear about the limits of awareness training. It is an awareness-level course that builds understanding and confidence; it does not by itself qualify someone as a workplace first-aider. HSE guidance requires first-aiders to complete practical training with in-person assessment (such as FAW or EFAW), which no online course — including this one — can provide.
