RIDDOR — the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 — places a legal duty on employers, the self-employed and people in control of work premises to report certain serious workplace incidents to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Reliable incident data is how risks are identified and prevented across British workplaces, and failing to report a reportable event is a criminal offence. The course explains what RIDDOR is and why it exists, who counts as the “responsible person” carrying the duty to report, and where RIDDOR sits alongside an organisation’s wider health & safety and accident-recording arrangements.
It then works through exactly what must be reported — work-related deaths, specified injuries, over-seven-day incapacitation injuries, reportable occupational diseases and dangerous occurrences (near misses) — and the practical detail of how and when to report, including the correct HSE channels and the statutory time limits that apply to each type of event. Finally it covers the duty to keep records and everyday good practice. It is an awareness-level course: it gives every learner the knowledge to recognise a reportable event, understand the legal duties and deadlines, and play their part in getting incidents reported correctly and on time.
