Lifting operations — from a passenger lift or a vehicle tail-lift to a crane or a patient hoist — carry a high potential for serious harm if equipment fails or a lift goes wrong. The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) exist to make sure lifting equipment is strong, stable, well positioned and safely used.
